Welcome to the Cumberland News Rifle Club, the home of Target Shooting in Carlisle.

The Club holds various Open Shoots during the year.

Our biggest open shoot is the Air Gun Championships in March. This is our premier shoot of the year, attracting a nationwide entry of very high class. Over the last few years entries have been close to capacity, so early entries are advised.

The format of the shoot is two 60 shot details of 1 hour 45 minutes, at 2 hour intervals.

At the 2000 shoot Dave Rattray equalled the Scottish Senior Men's Air Rifle record with a new Feinwerkbau P70 aluminium stocked air rifle purchased only 2 days before the shoot. David recorded strings of 100, 99, 100, 95, 99 and 99 for a total of 592.

The 2012 Championship is on 20/21 OCTOBER 2012

In November is the .22 Rifle Prone Shoot, held over two days on or about the second weekend in November. This shoot draws entrants from the Midlands to the Highlands of Scotland.

The format of the shoot was three 15 minute details of 20 shots each during a 1 hour period. Bill Vaughan from Galashiels holds the highest score in recent times with a 598 out of 600.

The format was changed in 2003 to an 80 shot event, shot in four 20 shot details. Competitors can either shoot all four details consecutively or shoot two details, have a break then shoot the final two details, the choice is yours.

This years event is on 10/11 November 2012

We also run an Open Shoot for Sport Rifles combining prescision and duelling events. Next shoot to be advised.

The club also runs an event for teams of three from various (and any) organisations to try Target Shooting, this is the Carlisle 100 Shoot and is run for a week in the spring.
The date for the next one is: To Be Advised.
